What Is Piloncillo?
Piloncillo is unrefined cane sugar. It is pressed in the form of a cone or cube. It tastes like earthy caramel.
Piloncillo is used to make fried dough (bunuelos) syrup. You can also prepare Bunuelos sauce using cinnamon and anise, as in this recipe.
How To Use Buñuelos Syrup?
Buñuelos syrup is poured over the bunuelos fried dough. It can also be served with pancakes or waffles instead of maple syrup. You can pour it over cheese or ice cream.
How To Store Buñuelos Syrup?
You can store Bunuelos syrup in the refrigerator. Allow to cool completely before transferring to the storage container. Then store in an airtight glass container or jar in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Warm it in the microwave before use.
