    What Is A Calzone?

Calzone is an underappreciated Italian delicacy that is typically characterized as a folded pizza or a turnover pizza. Calzones are a type of Italian pizza that originated in Naples in the 18th century and are popular because they are a handy meal, and can be your go-to snack. It is famous for its half-moon crescent form. These calzones are stuffed with delectable fillings like ham, salami, mozzarella, some crunchy veggies, ricotta, eggs, and some generous amount of pecorino and parmesan cheese.

Calzones originated from Italy in the form of crescent pastry. Their components are similar but not the same as pizza and are thus also called calzone pizza. Olive oil, tomato sauce, garlic, and seafood sauce are preferred with the Italian calzone.

Calzone, also termed calzone pizza, is generally prepared on a grill using a pizza baking stone to give it a fluffy, golden-brown texture. If desired, the Italian Calzone can be garnished with some mozzarella cheese, marinara sauce, tomato sauce, or spaghetti sauce.

To fancy your calzone like a pizza, you can top it up with some pizza toppings, like olives, onions, oregano, and peppers, with loads of grated mozzarella. These calzones can be prepared in two different versions. The Fried version, which is generally filled with tomato and mozzarella, is prepared in Puglia and is known as Panzerotti. The Sweet versions, which are smaller and cookie-sized, are an authentic delicacy in Italy's Marche area.
